Up and down the country, bees pollinate our food, keep our farms in business and help our gardens, parks and countryside thrive. You may not always notice them working away, but in many ways we rely on bees and other hard-working insects.

Bees have been having a hard time of it lately, however. A sharp fall in their number in recent years has led to growing concerns about the impact this may have on our local environment, farmers and the economy.

A study last year found that if bees disappeared it would cost British farmers at least £1.8 billion a year to pollinate their crops by hand – which would cause food prices, such as fresh fruit and vegetables, to rocket.

Sir Bob will be doing what he can to support and protect our bees, both in Parliament and in his constituency of Colchester. Have a look around his website to see what he has been doing and how you might help the bee, which is not so much humble but plays a vital role in the food chain.
