She has a special interest in education issues, was a school governor at Ecclesbourne School for 12 years and a member of the PTA for 8 years before that. She was a founder member of the Grant Maintained Schools Advisory Committee and its Chairman for several years until she retired in order to fight the European Election in 2004. Pauline has led two Social Action Projects to Uganda involving students from Woodlands School in Allestree and Ecclesbourne School in Duffield. They spent many months fund raising locally to help schools in a rural part of Uganda to build new classrooms, and took out hand sewing machines for an aids project and some computers to help the rural community to learn how to use them. She has recently returned from another trip where she opened Derby Hall at Mirembe Secondary School which was funded by Project Uganda.
