Zac Goldsmith, MP for Richmond Park & North Kingston

Zac Goldsmith, MP for Richmond Park & North Kingston

Zac Goldsmith was elected as MP for the constituency of Richmond Park and North Kingston in May 2010.

One of Zac’s key strengths is that he was brought up in Richmond and knows the area well. Zac has built a reputation as one of the country’s most formidable campaigners on green issues. He has championed a range of environmental causes, highlighting among other things, the menace of climate change. He has also helped raise significant funds for the Royal Parks, the Soil Association and a wide range of other environment and conservation organisation.
Zac Goldsmith’s Experience

Zac Goldsmith was the Editor of the Ecologist Magazine for 10 years. He stepped down in 2008 after being selected as the Conservative Party Parliamentary candidate for Richmond Park and North Kingston. He remains Director of the Ecologist.

In 2005 he was asked to oversee a wide-ranging review of environmental policy for the Conservative Party. The Quality of Life Policy Review was delivered to David Cameron in September 2007. Many of the recommendations have since become Party Policy.

In between his work with The Ecologist and his political campaigns, Zac raises funds for groups around the world dealing with issues ranging from agriculture and energy to conservation and climate change.

In 2003 Zac was the recipient of the Beacon Prize for ‘Young Philanthropist of the Year’. In 2004, he received the Global Green Award for ‘International Environmental Leadership’.

He has participated in numerous television and radio programmes in the UK and abroad. He has debated at the Oxford Union twice, and has delivered speeches at numerous colleges, schools and Think Tanks in the UK. He delivered the Schumacher Memorial Lecture in 2003 in Bristol, and took part in a regional speaking tour in 2002 directed at British farmers and agricultural writers/experts.

In September 2009, Zac’s book, The Constant Economy, was released. A programme for action, it is a ten-point plan for turning Britain around and moving it in a sustainable direction.

Sir Bobs Bees

One of our Patrons, Sir Bob Russell MP is championing the cause of bees and their plight in the UK.

Sir Bob Russell MP

Sir Bob Russell MP

Up and down the country, bees pollinate our food, keep our farms in business and help our gardens, parks and countryside thrive. You may not always notice them working away, but in many ways we rely on bees and other hard-working insects.

Bees have been having a hard time of it lately, however. A sharp fall in their number in recent years has led to growing concerns about the impact this may have on our local environment, farmers and the economy.

A study last year found that if bees disappeared it would cost British farmers at least £1.8 billion a year to pollinate their crops by hand – which would cause food prices, such as fresh fruit and vegetables, to rocket.

Sir Bob will be doing what he can to support and protect our bees, both in Parliament and in his constituency of Colchester. Have a look around his website to see what he has been doing and how you might help the bee, which is not so much humble but plays a vital role in the food chain.

If you would like to get involved or donate and get your Bee Saver Kit, you can visit Sir Bobs site here:
